Erasmus+ Guide for Incoming Students

1- General Information

OSTIM Technical University is located in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, at the heart of industry and business, and is distinguished by its practice-oriented education model. Our university welcomes international students through various exchange programs, primarily the European Union’s Erasmus+ Program.

  • Students may only apply after being officially nominated by one of our partner universities.
  • Individual applications (without nomination) will not be accepted.
  • The primary language of instruction is English, with some courses offered in Turkish.

2- Admission and Application Process

  • Nomination: The sending university must officially nominate the student under Erasmus or other exchange programs.
  • Application: Once nomination is completed, students apply online via TurnaPortal.
  • Required Documents for Application:
    1. Learning Agreement
    2. Current transcript of records
    3. Language proficiency certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, or internal university exam result)
    4. Copy of passport
    5. Passport-size photograph
  • Deadlines:
    • Fall Semester: 30 June (nomination), 31 July (application)
    • Spring Semester: 30 November (nomination), 31 December (application)
  • Language Requirement: Minimum English level B1–B2.
  • Evaluation Criteria:
    • Academic achievement: 50%
    • Language proficiency: 50%
    • Priorities: Students with disabilities, students with martyr/veteran relatives, and students using green (environmentally friendly) travel options, etc.

3- Accommodation

  • University Dormitories:
    • ​ Limited quota is available for Erasmus students in contracted dormitories.
  • Private Dormitories and Apartments: 
    • The university provides guidance regarding private dorms and rental apartments.
  • Application Method: 
    • After receiving the acceptance letter, accommodation application details are shared with students.

4- Courses and Academic Program

  • Course Catalogue: A full list of courses offered in English and Turkish with ECTS credits is published.
  • Course Selection: Students may choose courses from different departments; however, registration is subject to the approval of the lecturer.
  • Course Load: Erasmus students are expected to take approximately 30 ECTS credits per semester.
  • • Academic Advising: Students receive support from departmental coordinators and the Erasmus Office in course selection and credit transfer processes.
  • • Credit Recognition: The Learning Agreement serves as the official basis for credit recognition at the home institution.

5- Fees and Living Costs

  • Tuition Fees: No tuition fees are charged to Erasmus+ students.
  • Average Monthly Living Expenses in Ankara:
    • o Accommodation: €200–300 /m
    • Food: €150–200 /m
    • Transportation: €30–40 /m
    • Other expenses: €50–100 /m
  • Erasmus Grant:
    • Students receive grants from their respective National Agencies.
    • Payments are generally made as 70% upfront and 30% after return with required documents.
  • Green Travel Grant: Additional support is provided for students choosing environmentally friendly means of transportation.

6- Health and Safety

  • Insurance: All students must obtain valid health insurance in Türkiye.
  • Healthcare Services: Students can access healthcare through partner institutions and state hospitals.
  • Safety: The campus is secured 24/7. Emergency numbers and procedures are provided during orientation.
  • Students with Disabilities: Accessibility and tailored support services are available for students with special needs.

7- Orientation Program

  • Timing: A one-week orientation program is organized before the start of each academic semester.
  • Content:
    • Introduction to the university and campus
    • Registration and student affairs procedures
    • Course selection and academic system guidance
    • Cultural activities and city tour
    • Student clubs introduction
  • Social Integration: Erasmus students are supported by mentor students and student communities.

8- Visa and Residence Permit

  • Visa: Before arriving in Türkiye, students must obtain a student visa through the Turkish Embassy/Consulate in their home country.
  • Residence Permit: Within 30 days of arrival, students must apply for a residence permit at the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management
  • Guidance: The Erasmus Office provides assistance throughout the visa and residence permit processes
